SAN MIGUEL COUNTY STEPS UP WITH $100,000
TO ACQUIRE THE VALLEY FLOOR
At their December 15 meeting San Miguel
County unanimously approved their 2007 budget including $100,000 for
the Valley Floor acquisition. The money comes from the County’s
Open Space and Recreation Fund.
“We are very pleased with the
County’s financial contribution to the Valley Floor Acquisition
effort. $100,000 is a significant commitment from the County. We applaud
this statement of support from SMC’s Board of Commissioners
and their recognition of the regional community’s desire to
see the Valley Floor preserved as Open Space forever.” stated
Hilary White, Program Director of Valley Floor Preservation Partners
(VFPP).
VFPP is spearheading the private fundraising
campaign to keep the Valley Floor Forever Wild. There are a variety
of ways to contribute to the Forever Wild Campaign; place money in
the Wishing Well and your donation will be matched by one of the generous
families sponsoring the Wishing Well Match Program, give a preservation
gift certificate for the holidays, buy our organic cotton t-shirts,
hats and tote bags, posters and books sold at local shops, or call
VFPP to discuss your pledge or donation at 970-728-8256.
“Our efforts to save the Valley
Floor have created national awareness of the importance of saving
our open spaces and wild places. We’re making history here,
in fact, this may be the greatest conservation story ever told. We
want everyone to be a part of the story, and contribute to something
lasting and meaningful for generations to come.”
